How do you guys wire them, if you connect them to the lighter and put them on the window then the wire will be going across the middle and I dont want that.

^ Best option is a hardwire kit which connects the unit to the fusebox. What I did instead was buy a 12 foot straight power cord for my Escort and ran the wire from the cigarette lighter, under the trim behind the passenger seat, under the passenger door sill, up in the small gap between the dash and passenger door, up the passenger A-pillar trim, and then along the passenger visor into the unit just below my rearview mirror. Not a direct wire because I still have to plug the unit into the 12V when I want to use it, but no wires in the way. I think it looks very neat.

I keep putting off the V1 for my own rides. Everybody in the Tampa crew rolls with them and swear by them...

That is the exact one I have from best buy, its AWESOME! nothing bad to say about it. Definitely has payed for itself at least 6 times. I don't think its worth buying an expensive one then having to worry about it being stolen etc etc...
I put mine in the lower center of the windshield and have it semi tucked. Worth every penny!

Do you have the wire going thru the middle of the car?

Also what are the differences, some are like $40 while some are like $500, why is the to model sooo much more expensive when they have similar functions.

Worth is always highly subjective but with RD's you don't want to save money in the short run for a false sense of security. If you want info on RD's then hit an RD forum. I'd suggest RadarDetector.net. There are a lot of differences and you need to take some initiative on your part to try to figure out what would suit you best. As a rule of thumb the major difference with the $40 units is that they're junk (though price is really just price).

Don't overlook the existing discussions in the electronics subforum.

There's a bit of subjective preference involved. Don't rely on people blindly suggesting whatever they happen to have. Do your due diligence, use the 30 return period to verify whether or not a given option is suitable to you. There are a lot of good options out there and one size does not fit all.

In addition to the radar detector, keep you eyes open all the time when speeding, they will catch most cops before you even get to them!
You can't rely on just the RD. You have to maintain situational awareness or else you're just setting yourself up for fail.

Yea it is, doesnt bother me though because I have it tied up so its not a mess. Dude if you have a tight budget get the escort I'm living proof that it works, its not one of the annoying ones either that goes off every 2 seconds for no reason.
