Default Radar detectors

Im thinking about getting a radar detector but I dont have a lot of money. Do you guys think its worth it saving up for the good expensive ones or will a cheaper one be good enough. I dont speed or break laws a lot but when I do I would rather have one. Also what are the differences, some are like $40 while some are like $500, why is the to model sooo much more expensive when they have similar functions.
This is the cheap one I want to get. It has pretty good reviews.

I have found the cheap ones to be basically useless, the Cobra especially.

I like the Escort/Passport series. I've had a 8500 for years and recently sent it back in for updating and repairs for $80. I also bought an Escort Redline detector. It's outstanding.

If you live where they use laser, then you'll have to install a jammer too. I use the Blinder M27.

Good luck!

I have the 8500 also..... love it...

Thing to remember, with on/off radar most places are using, the radar detector will not save you all the time...

In addition to the radar detector, keep you eyes open all the time when speeding, they will catch most cops before you even get to them!

Escort or Valentine. Anything else and all you'll have is a subpar detector and a citation. I run an Escort Passport 8500 X50 Blue.

My valentine1 has paid for itself many times over on road trips.

9500Xi
500 bucks. fantanstic detector. Bought it 300 miles after I got the car.

Do not depend on the radar alone, your eyes are still the best defense. The detector gives you a leg up, but it's not a cure all.

I would not bother with anything in the $100 or lower range--you won't be getting your money's worth. Go with an Escort, Valentine, or Beltronics (Escort and Bel being owned by the same company).

I've had both the valentine v1 and the 9500ix, both are great. If you do get a radar, hard wire it, i use a visor mount with 9500, looks pretty clean and you cant see it from outside the car.
