Default Radio Powers off briefly

Ok, I'm new to the site so forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I have a 2004 s2k, and every so often, the factory radio will shut off completely for just a second or two, then power up again all on its own. I have no idea what is causing this. Everything else works properly, and right now it is the factory head unit (though I will be upgrading it this weekend with an Alpine CDA-117). I don't know if an aftermarket head unit will solve the problem, or if there is some other issue with the car's electrical. Any help is appreciated.

Everytime I've seen this it was due to a loose/faulty/corroded ground connection for the deck. When you install the new Alpine unit, just ground it to a new point, not the stock radio harness - the problem should not persist.
my 2 cents

I have this same issue, although it doesn't bother me much. I have Alpine IDA-X305S, modifry dash control, & polk components. Sometimes cuts off when charging Iphone or some times when turning on headlights.

It is very unlikely that the ground is the problem. Factory radios have iso mount brackets that are connected to the chassis and there is a ground in the harness and the antenna is also a ground (not a good one but a ground none the less). Sounds like the radio itself is going out, so putting the 117 in should solve this problem. If not check the yellow and red wired for a loss in power when the radio shuts down. This will let you know which circuit is causing the problem.

Thanks for the help, I'm almost finished with the Alpine install.
