Default Radio swap??

So I have a new to me 2005 and am looking to do a radio swap, it already has a Kenwood aftermarket radio in it but I'm looking for something new and I especially want the dash controls to work! I'm looking for just a radio swap, dont need amps or big subwoofers ect, just some nice background music. Got my eye on an Alpine CDE-172bt..
So what do you think and is a hard thing to do? I'm reasonably good with car/bike stuff just not this particular car yet. So I'm wondering do it myself or take it to a radio shop?

Replacing the head unit is not hard. You just need to take care to not mar your interior with the sharp edges of the units. Search YouTube for how-to vids. Basically, you remove the center console top, the radio door, and 4(?) screws holding the radio.

Do your dash controls work now? If they do, your car may already have a Modifry DCI. If the controls don't work, get one of these: https://modifry.com/index.php?route=...ory&path=18_46 (if you purchase one, get the SCV option - it adjusts your volume based on the speed of the car)

Also take a look at other items on the Modifry page, as there are several items that are very useful.

Good luck!

Thanks, and no, the dash controls do not work right now and I'm looking to rectify that. Thanks for the heads up on the SCV option.

You can buy a harness that plugs into Honda car stereo harness. Allows fitting radio without molesting stock wiring. Hopefully existing install already did that, and didn't hack it up. Won't know until you take it apart.

If you buy from Crutchfield, for a small extra fee they'll make a plug and play harness so you don't have to do any wiring.

They take one of those harness for Honda things, and pre wire it to your new stereo harness. Plug Honda side into Honda, plug stereo side into stereo. Plug in antenna wire, and wiring done.

Or you can just take the harness for Honda the existing aftermarket stereo used (hopefully), and cut off the stereo harness side, and rewire that to your new stereo harness.

Its not difficult. Most of the wires use industry standard color codes.

Yeah, I do not know what the last guy did in there, he also has wiring in the spare tire hole for an amp and subwoofer (I think). Not sure if I want to dig into it and see, or just take it to a stereo place to do it...

Looking at this maybe : Kenwood Excelon KDC-X305 CD receiver at Crutchfield Got any thoughts on it?

Seems pretty decent. 22w rms, will have more punch than stock by a healthy margin. Kenwood great brand.

But, really need cd player? Save money, and complexity if use a digital media receiver version instead. Copy cd collection to a usb stick. All your music on one little thumb drive. Avoid hassle of carrying and swapping out cds.

Yeah, I do want a cd player, kind of an old (er) guy here, heck I miss my old 8 tracks! And if you have a usb stick sticking out you wouldn't be able to close the door. I wish a radio like I have in my truck would fit, I can throw in a cd and record it to my radio, it'll hold 9000 songs in the head unit!!

Ok, so I tore into this thing this morning to see what I had to work with, console and dash came out easy (I was concerned) Now some questions for ya.
Trying to understand the wiring on this thing, I'm thinking/hoping the last guy didn't mess with stuff too bad .
Are these the original plugs to the radio? So I can start from scratch? (Sorry the pics are so big)

And then this little rats nest unplugs and just goes with the radio I'm taking out?

I hope this is the case then I can replace this radio on my own! I need to relearn this stuff, been a long time!
