I can have it on all the time, but I don't use it. It automatically comes on when in reverse. As for night time imagery...if it's pitch black outside, you won't see a thing. However, since I'm in NYC, it's seldom pitch black outside...streetlights are enough to see where I'm going.

Nice. I have a Kenwood CCD-2000 installed on my Xterra. The low level light auto-adjustment is amazing. It can be grainy when very dark outside, but adjusts the light levels so you can clearly see everything. The size of the unit is nice as well, it would probably be a good candidate for installation in the S:

Right. As long as there is SOME light (reverse lights) you see what you need to see. Obviously, image quality severely degrades (as you mentioned) but it's not a digital camera to shoot a wedding. As long as I don't slam a tree, it's done its job.
