Default Recommend a HU for ~ $300

I know its all the rage in the forums right now, but are there any good HUs out there besides the 9857 around the $300 point? I don't have an iPod (Creative Zen Vision:M 30gb instead) and don't really like the aesthetics of Alpine HUs.

I've looked through Crutchfield's site and nothing really jumps out at me. A big plus if the receiver doesn't have crazy graphics. WTF do I need swimming dolphins on my dash?

I just put in the Pioneer DEH P4800MP. It has an aux input and has a wired remote input that can be used with either the Modifry or PAC DCI to retain the remote control. Same specs as the more expensive HUs without the glaring graphics that you don't see anyway with the radio door closed. It was $174 at crutchfield. Lots of outputs for future expansion and a dedicated sub out.

I'd suggest look for remaining stock on Eclipse 8445 or 8455. They're a year old, but dealers still have them. IMHO they are better units than the 2006 models.

Plus, you'll get waste hours of free time learning how to use it!

CD400 doesn't play MP3s at all? I do like the simple design and lighting.

I'll check out that Pioneer and Clarion's offerings...

check local bestbuys. they have the 9855 for 279.99. if they are demo models, they are 10% off so about 250. there is an extended warranty option for 4 years for 39.99.
that's what i went with personally.
