Post Recommendation on new deck and speakers for my 01?

Can you guys recommend on what I can get? Preferably a link w/ pics as well. Would like something that is good for lows and has an auxiliary input for my iPhone.

Also, since the side controls won't be useful anymore, does anyone know if they sell a replacement plate that basically "shaves off" those buttons? I think it'd annoy me to see useless buttons, though it wouldn't really be that important.

TIA!

Bunch of threads on systems here. As Chow noted, the Modifry DCI will help make those controls usable. I didn't go that route with my upgrades simply because I can easily reach the HU to mute, pause and change songs as needed.

I upgraded my stock HU to an Alpine iDA x303 (fits the stock opening, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1bvO3TwdHAr/p...tml?tp=5684)and and upgraded the stock woofers and tweeters with the Alpine SPS600C (built in amp, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1bvO3TwdHAr/p...tml?o=m&tp=105) and am loving it. I listen to only my iPod and have it hidden in the glove box. I have no need to add an amp or sub so this setup works great for me (the speakers are really excellent, can easily handle what the HU is putting out and sounds good and clear even with the top down).

Many will tell you to figure out what you desire and start from there. Good luck!

Reckon - did those tweeters fit in the stock location, or did you have to put them elsewhere?

for something "good for lows," to get a real difference you'll just have to get a subwoofer. the performance equivalent is like if you were asking which header will make the most power. if you care about power, forget about this vs that header and get FI. 6.5" speakers aren't great for bass. especially if they aren't separately amplified.

for a head unit, any of the alpine units will do well for you. the ida series seems to have the best ipod/bluetooth/etc features. i'd go to the alpine website, find the models you'd like, then search for the best price on the one you want. for your wants and needs, that's the product line i'd give the strongest recommendation to.

modifry's DCI (Dash Control Interface) and plug and play harness are just over $100; then you keep your buttons. you don't have to splice anything either, which is a nice bonus. i have his DCI and really like it.
i think it would cost so much time to shave it that it would be much less expensive for you to get a DCI and gain the functionality unless you really don't value your time. if you don't care about time, i suppose you could pull the dash out, remove the buttons, fiberglass over the piece, the throw a layer of dry carbon on top or something for aesthetics. that might be pretty cool, and if you did something like that we'd all like to see it. but after typing it, i see that it would end up costing more than $100. so i take it back. just buy the DCI or ignore the buttons.

i'm not sure what speakers are the best for that application. boston has some that someone recently posted a good review about; i think they were priced around $300. what's your budget for speakers? $100, $200, $300, more?

Tweeters fit perfectly fine. No adjusting whatsover. I didn't even have to remove the front screen (and actually left it on to make sure it fit nice and snug).

I didn't need any spacers. The only thing I had to do was cut out the bottom of the basket the stock setup has to ensure a good and easy mount (that or drill new holes into the door, which I decided against). It went in fine and does not block or interfere with the windows in any way.
