Default Remote Central Locking Failure

Hi all,

I am new to the forum, but have been keeping an eye on them for sometime. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with my S2000 recently, so figured you were the guys to ask.

So, I have searched the forums for my issue, but generally found incomplete solutions or situations that differ from mine, so here goes...

My remote central locking has stopped working. It has failed over time in this order:

1. Car would not unlock one door (passenger) via the remote
2. Car would not unlock either door via the remote
3. Car would not unlock or lock either door via remote

At this point, I researched the issue and found about the locking motors. I stripped and cleaned the motors as per the thread I found. The door would then lock, but not unlock via the remote.

I replaced the locking units in the doors with Rock Auto replacement ones - doors still lock but not unlock via remote.

Boot opens with the key fob. Doors lock/unlock fine with key.

When pressing the keyfob to lock the door, I can hear a 'click' from the unit under the steering column. When unlocking, I hear no noise.

I have therefore come to the conclusion the central locking module under the steering column has failed. Is this a replaceable part or is it coded to the key/ecu/car?

Does this sound a feasible assumption?

I am experiencing the same problem. The remote will turn on and off the car alarm, but will not lock or unlock my doors. If I find a fix and it works, I'll post it!

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if the contril unit under the steering column is interchangeable? Or is it coded to key/car?

Part number is 38380-s2a-g02
Contl unit. Dr&t/g lock & keyless

The Helms manual has fairly extensive instructions for testing the keyless control unit, but has
no specific instructions for replacement. My guess is that after replacing the module you'll need
to program your transmitters into it, which there are instructions for.

I don't have a Helms manual, nor am I familiar with them (UK). Could you suggest where to purchase/download etc?

The US version of the manual is available from the publisher Helm Inc.. Looks like eBay is
a source for both paper and CD versions.
In addition, there was a PDF going around the internet a few years ago, you may be able
to find a download. This is also a possibility though I haven't tried it.

Thanks oth. Looks like it can be changed and reprogrammed - good news!
