Default Remote Gain Control Question

My amp remote gain control is mounted under my seat easily reached but my HU also has a pretty easy way to adjust the sub level. What do you guys do? Keep the gain all the way up and then play with HU control if needed or the other way around?? Right now I find myself adjusting both.

It will depend on how the circuit is designed, but turning any gain to its max level is not advised. Most circuits are designed with little to no thought as to clipping at max levels. I suggest 3/4 max on the piece you'd rather not touch often.

I never could figure out, though, why people feel the constant need to dink with their sound settings. Set it up properly the first time and leave well enough alone.

Thanks. I agree about not messing with settings too much, but I find sound quality can really vary when dealing with mp3's so sometimes a slight/quick adjustment is in order.

In that case, it may behoove you to adjust the MP3s before cutting them to CD. Even out their volume levels, add/subtract bass as necessary, etc.

Because not all sources are created equal. Simple as that. Two examples from recent memory: G-Unit's Beg for Mercy is the right volume at 19 on my head unit, another CD, Beck's Sea Change is the right volume at 51. With Beck's CD the right amount of bass is level 7, with G-Unit level 1 is earsplitting.

So there you go. I check my non-fade on the headunit with almost every swap of the disc.

Well the gain control for my amp doesn't have numbers or whatever, it just keeps spinning up or down. The shop guys told me that if I keep turning it up the amp will stop at a certain point.

I'll have to look into messing with mp3's during cd burning thanks!

What amp are you using? That sounds like an odd gain contol knob.

I've always preferred a knob for the sub level control - having it as a menu function on the deck is ok, but sometimes you want more bass... now!

A good remote level control won't give you more than what the gain on the amp is set to - and macgyver is right, you should have gone through and level set everything first.
