Default Remote low pass level contoller - useful?

Hey all,

I'm making the semi-final preparations for my car stereo, and am planning on using a PG Tantrum 600.4 amp. As an option it has a low pass level controller available, essentially a knob you mount in the cabin and can immediately adjust sub output.

Is this a useful thing to have or is it just adding to the complexity of the install without any really big benefits?

Any opinions would be great.

What HU are you going for? I'm using a Alpine 9815 and using its crossovers and sub level control. If you have something similar in the HU why not use it?

I'm going to use a 2 year old Alpine to start, I belive the 7484, and then next year or even later this year will probably upgrade to an Alpine with ipod controls.

The idea behind this knob is so that you can instantly adjust the bass without resorting to the headunit. So, drop the top, crank up some more bass, you mother is in the car, you can instantly kill the bass until the drive is over, etc.

Ok I understand the range of adjustment is going to be grater, but it seems a bit of extra money and work just for this.

Turn this knob, or in my case, press the volume button once then turn the knob and I get 15db of control to the sub. If I want to turn the sub off, press and hold function button, select sub and turn it off.

I bit more to do to turn it off, my view is that your adding unnecessary complexity.

Okay, I'm not doing it, first off because it'll be a PITA to install, secondly there are no blank switches in my 2002 to install the knob in, and I'm NOT cutting up my dash.
