Speakers not falling out yet. No, door rattles. I was wondering about the dynamats. Am I the only one not using them?

i wrapped the crossovers with some electrical tape to make them somewhat water proof and just tape them to the door panel next to the speakers. i am not sure that's the best spot though. make sure you tie up the extra wiring so that none will catch the white things attatched to the bottom of the windows.

Can someone tell me the function of the speaker baskets in the door? What happens when they are cut? Seems like once they are cut, they will buzz.

they are there to keep the speakers dry. never heard of the buzzing problem after cutting the basket. check your installation, make sure nothing is loose.

Speaker baskets are there to protect the speakers from the elements, and space them from the door. Cutting the rear of the basket allows you to mount a deeper speaker . It is made of hard plastic that you can cut the back of with a hacksaw. There is no buzzing or rattling. If you are concerned about speakers getting wet, get some foam speaker baffles from www.crutchfield.com

For those of you replacing your speakers, I highly recommend you get component speakers, and mount the tweeters up higher. High frequencies are very directional, and your leg will block a lot of the sound. You will get better imaging and it will sound louder than a 3-way in the door. I would also at least replace the head unit with a aftermarket head unit. They can be very cheap, and you get a lot more power than the stock unit. Besides, we have a nice fold-up cover that hides your stereo anyways. (No need for stealth)
