Replacing my speakers. Help?
Okay S2kiers. I'm looking to replace my speakers with quality ones soon. I have a 2007MY AP2.
Price is no object, and I am an audiophile. e.g., I cannot use any other earphones that isn't my Shure SE530s. They just bother me.
I have a small caveat though...
Besides being an audiophile, I am also a track addict. So whatever my replacements are, I have two conditions:
1) Does not require cutting. I know some front woofers are too deep for the S2000's factory door mounts.
2) Weighs equal or less than the stock speakers.
Also, note that I am just doing a direct replacement of the speakers. No amps and other such things. Those extra things add weight.
Anyone here have ideas on where to look?
EDIT: I am not looking for loudness. Loudness is only good to me if I can hear the details in the music. I want clarity and sparkle. Of course, this being a convertible, loudness plays a good part when the top is down.

well ill be the first to tell you your not going to find a speaker that weighs as much as a factory speaker, the magnet on it is very small, compared to aftermarket. id say the best choice for you would be pioneer or kenwood, they arent the best out there but they are the lightest compared to alpine and infinity with larger magnets. you can go to best buy and purchase speaker harnesses so there wont be any cutting involved
just to add, even if you went with a quality speaker like polk, alpine, or infinity, for each speaker it wouldnt even be a pound more, your desire for the lightest speaker possible is quite foolish honestly considering speakers dont even weigh that much
Well, I can live with a couple pounds more. Just didn't want 50lbs extra or something like that. Especially subs, since they usually go in the trunk that is already pitifully small and adds weight to the rear.
Shit if I lose a couple pounds I can make up for the speakers.
P.S. >> I don't know shit about car audio speakers. I've thus far kept my audiophile tendencies to my headphones. But since my dog ate my $500 earphones, I thought that instead of buying another pair, I'd just upgrade the audio system (it's where I listen to music most of the time anyway!).
Thanks for the input man.

1st-which type of music do you listen to?
2nd-what HU do you have?
Yes, you can get away with just adding speakers and making it sound better. But your head unit is the main processor. In my gf's 6thgen accord, i had infinity kappas all the way around in there with the stock deck. Sound better then stock but i knew there was more potential. Change the HU to a low end Alpine, sounded better then stock HU but not quite there. Upgraded to the Alpine CDA-9887 with imprint. Sound was so much cleaner and crisp. keep in mind, no amp. My gf listens to R&B without alot of bass to it. Kappas worked well for her.

Realistically, it's not that hard to pull a sub and door speakers the night prior to your track event - if you set it up right, it would take you maybe 30mins total to pull all 3 speakers (not bothering to pull tweeters because, let's face it, a few ounces isn't going to cut your times down).
The question, therefore, comes down to how much work you're willing to put into the build and track prep.
