Default Retain Dash Control With Aftermarket Head Unit

Hi,

When I bought my 2004 S2000 (brand new, in 2004), I replaced the head unit with one that could be heard with the top down. The istaller promised that the dash controls would work, but he lied. Modifry's thing got it working fine, but it was a horrible PITA to install.

I have just bought a 2007 S2000, which still has the stock stereo in it. I want to replace it, and don't think that transferring the one from my '04 makes sense.

Has the state of the art improved in the last decade, so that a good retailer/installer can now sell me a new system (HU, better front speakers, and an amp), which will function fully with the stock dash controls, or do I need to get another Modifry adapter?

Thanks.

No headunits by themselves will give you dash controls. There are other external adapters available but they will install similar and give you less features.

I installed a modifry last week and it was pretty easy. I had a plug and play harness so I didn't have to do any wiring, just plug one end into the car and the other into the headunit.

Nope -- same as it has always been. You need an SWI or DCI and Modifry is still the one to get for the S2000. Install is very easy if you have a head unit that supports the Modifry PnP harness.

I found the modifry unit easy to install (plug and play). I installed mine at the same time that I installed my Alpine deck.

Just did a modifry kit on my 2007 S2000 last night. The dash and the head unit works great. Weird extra feature : pressing the channel and mute button together activates voice control via my pioneer deck.

Btw anyone know where to order an oem stereo bracket? I tried for an hour to remove the stock one but only managed to strip the heads of the screws

went with the SWI-RC because crutchfield.com talked me into getting it over the modifry PnP.. Im sure it works great, but i fried my original dash controls in the process ($40 for new ones). in retrospect i would have went with the modifry adapter. too much soldering and figuring out which wires do what. its on its way back to crutchfield.

I've never actually ordered from them, but HondaAutomotiveParts.com
has a great online parts catalog.

My local honda dealer had the OEM brackets - 5-7 a piece, really cheap. I had the same issue trying to remove them from the stock HU, broke a few drill bits in the process then decided to buy new ones.

^Initially I had a hard time removing the screws as well, iirc, I ended up using a screwdriver attachment with my socket wrench and the added torque removed the bracket screw quite easily.

The screw and HU and or bracket are made of different metals and the essentially BOND to each other. Sometimes tapping with a hammer while applying torque works too.

They have always been tough even on the '00's brand new!
