Default Roll Bar Speakers

Hi All

I just installed an Alpine CDE-149BT that I got for $300, as well as a Modifry DCI and I couldn't be happier.

It has an upgraded display, and for those that are wondering, the HU fits perfectly, and the CD door opens fully (no problem) and the control knobs DON NOT touch the radio door. The DCI is fantastic and I couldn't live without it. I used to drive with one hand on the volume control, and now I never touch it.

I certainly don't need to upgrade the amp, but I probably will get some speakers and a power amp anyways.

My next project is to upgrade my roll bar speakers (AP2). Despite opinions to the contrary, I think these speakers are a great idea. I had "headrest speakers" in my RX7 and loved them. What I'm wondering is, has anyone tried the "Modifry" speaker upgrade with the HiWave BMR12 Compact 2" Full-Range speakers? My link

How did the install go?
Did they fit?
Were you happy with the results?
Does anyone know where the connector for the roll bar speakers is (presumably at the bottom of the roll bar) and if there's any way to get at it so the speaker can be removed without cutting the wiring?

Shame no one replied here. I want to do exactly the same.

Did you go for this in the end answer your own questions?

I guess I should update this thread.

In a nutshell, I purchased 4 of these speakers, 4 replacement grills, a few super magnets, and a bunch of replacement clips (in case any fell in the rollbar). The speakers are actually very good and would be perfect for the application.

I managed to get the screens off and the magnets worked great to save the clips. I spent hours "carving" the grills to fit the speakers. Unfortunately, in the end there was no way I could make them fit. It was an exercise in futility. The speakers are just too big to fit. In the end I gave up and luckily I hadn't done too much damage so I put everything back together and decided to leave well enough alone.

It's too bad because the car really could use good roll bar speakers. At speed the pipes are so loud that it's pointless trying to listen to the deck

Have you seen Modifry's instructions?

Yes I have. Previously Bob at Modifry referred to the following speakers on the page and mentioned that he thought these might be a good (and cheaper) alternative:

HiWave BMR12 Compact 2" Full-Range speakers.

He hadn't tried them to see if they fit but felt they "might" be workable. The speakers are about $6 bucks each so I thought I'd give them a try. I wanted something that was totally covered by the grill. There was just no way to stuff them in there. Using the speakers from Modifry's original kit would probably still work, But I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Also I have big problems leaving speakers wide open on the roll bar with no grill covering them - they would be totally exposed to the elements, and I thought they looked a bit "cheezy". Also, I wasn't really up for making the plates and didn't want to destroy the existing plastic frame inside the roll bar where the existing tweeters are mounted.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has successfully done the mod.
