I would just pull those speakers out (or unplug them).

How many concerts have you been to with speakers behind the crowd?

I know its something about proper sound imaging... but when I researched the option to get better top down loudness I found it to be ridiculously expensive purchasing new, and hard to source second hand OEM roll hoop units. If you have your heart set on a behind the ear set up it I would do something inside the headrests cut out of your 00 S2000 a la SPods.

When I did my install it was difficult to get the the tweeters (03 setup) properly imaged to my ears with the top down. I have enough power to be "loud" but it takes a cupped hand to realize what the sound "could/should" sound like. If you have the determination I would try and run a single stereo speaker or a couple tweeters in the top of the dash to get sound reflecting off the windshield and into your ears. Someone also made a custom tweeter set-up near the door jam can't find the link but here's some other examples.

I wanted a stealth setup no visible modifications so having a swivel bucket for the tweeter was a no go.

Or just get better speakers...

Guarantee there's no problems hearing my stereo at WOT on the highway with the top down... And with the top up, can't hear the Tanabe Concept G exhaust

I agree, nothing will replace a good amp and component set. But if you are looking for perfect imagery out of your modified sound system, speaker placement cannot be overlooked. I have a single 60mm resonated exhaust with intake... top down at highway speeds I have more than enough juice to hear my music. I only wish the sound was being projected to my ears better. There is a difference in acoustics (top down at speed) with the windows up 2/3 and/or my hand cupped around the tweeter speaker so the sound is playing in the direction of my ear.

These are my simple observations, I do not consider myself a audiophile or electronics wizard. I think you will be more than happy with an upgraded component set and properly powered amp. If I remember correctly, I don't think the 00 model s2000 has a tweeter bezel cut out of your door panels, that's why I suggested a in dash setup for better sound imagery.
