I've had my Bose RSX sub installed for a while now and installed it using the RCA sub outs (line level) of my Alpine deck and get the infamous popping noises. I've heard other people installed it using the speaker level out for rear speakers of their decks and there is supposition that the amp needs a signal somewhere in the middle. I really can't try speaker level myself since I have rears installed, but I was wondering how many people have installed the RSX sub using speaker level for input and what the results were. I'd like to make a fix for this since seeing so many people with these issues is some motivation for me.

Thanks,
Mike

I too am using the sub out RCA's from a Alpine 9815 and I found that if you run left/right SIGNALl ONLY (ignore the RCA grounds) to the Bose inputs the popping goes away.

The INTERESTING thing I have found though is if you only run one signal to only 1 of the Bose inputs, the bass output increases tenfold but has the annoying popping sound. I am living with the popping for now since the increased bass response is the same intensity as the popping noise and semi covers it.

I am going to experiment by getting another amp to power the bose sub with.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to this guys. The guy emailed back and said that it sounded like the sub was getting the wrong inputs. I tried to explain in my email that it was pretty much doing it now matter how it's hooked up and gave him the link to this thread. So to him he didn't think it would fix the problem.

I've designed a fix for the popping and it worked when I tested it, but resulted in a decrease in "thump." I haven't had time to play with damned analog circuits this week due to midterms and needing some other components, so I'll hopefully have a solid circuit schematic for everyone soon enough.

Careful what you use as an amp - these bose subs are only like 1.3 ohm, I think.

Not too worried about the resistance since I am running a pair of aura shakers in parallel with the bose sub. I'm not sure why only one signal to the bose amp gives greater output but I'll live with it for now. Straight signal to both inputs gets rid of the popping though sacraficing output.

Just waiting for a cheap amp to become available and I think this little bose enclosure will work out just fine.

Well, over the weekend, I tried some of my final different circuits on my breadboard and settled on the final product, which I built, soldered and installed. I've been driving the past few days with no popping whatsoever and let me tell you it's been wonderful At any rate I'd like to pass on the joy to fellow S2K owners in the form of a simple splice-in black box. I'd like to gauge interest so I can build them all together and offer a lower price due to bulk purchasing. If you could please PM to let me know if your interested, it should be ~$25 and I can start a list. If there is some interest I can spend Sunday making them and ship them out Monday.

Also, you may feel free to come check out the results first hand in Gainesville, FL if you're interested.

Well, time to resurect this old thread. I fixed my poping problem last weekend. I was messing around in the trunk and noticed that if i touched the input wires the sub was popping a lot. So I pulled everything apart and found a couple things wrong. My connection goes from stereo RCA out to a stereo to mono adaptor to speaker wire to the sub. Here is what I found to be bad.

1 - the rca -> speaker wire connection got jacked somehow. (not sure how, it's inside the tranny tunnel also)
2 - the stereo -> mono adaptor was cracked in the middle. (not sure how, it's inside the tranny tunnel also)
3 - the stereo rca cable had the wire showing on the right side. not sure if it was grounding out or not, couldn't tell. (must have happened when i was pusing the head unit back in)

So I wraped the rca cable, replace the adaptor and got a new rca -> speaker wire cable. No more poping.
