I ran the power wire down the passenger side and ran the speaker and RCA wires through the middle. This is to reduce the possibility of alternator hum.

Good idea. I'll keep that in mind as I'm planning a redo. I just ran it down the side, but that makes sense. Plus, all those cables get a little tight on one side.

I am attempting to run wiring as described in this thread.

Does anyone have specific instructions on how to remove the center console panels (both the part around the shifter and the rear leather pad just below the glove box).

I am too scared to just start pulling and prying without knowing the best place to pull/pry.

Check Rick's site. He has a ton on step-by-step instructions for taking all sorts of things apart.

The console is all one piece and is held down with 8 clips. Start at the back corners (the armrest) and gently but firmly pull up. The rear clips will release. Then just work your way towards the front.

I know this because my '04 console arrived yesterday and I just had to run out to the garage and install it. :-)

It sounds from the Rick's document that you just pull up on one rear corner of the leather pad just below the glove box. Is this right? I don't have to pry it with anything -- just pull on it with my hands?

I recently replaced the radio and nearly broke the panel on the passenger side where the DCI's SCV wire had to be spliced into (the panel in the spot where most cars have a glove box). I am now very scared to pull too hard on anything. Knowing what I know now about that panel, I would have not pulled on it -- instead I would have pushed each clip forward from behind -- something that no one in the forums mentioned. (It worked much better that way the second time I removed it.)

It is just a pry-up operation with your hands. This posting from my '04 console upgrade might give you some insight regarding what the pieces look like:
