These are the Alpine R series that I used, and this is about what I paid.

I had to remove the rubber seal around the aluminum housing to get the woofers to fit right in mine, so you might need to improvise a good seal.

You'll either need to buy or make a wiring harness to connect your speaker wires to the plug on the stock HU. (You can just shove the wires in there, but I don't reccomend it)

Mark can get you a harness from Rolling Audio. (It's just four pieces of wire with the right kind of terminals to insert into the HU plug on one end and female bullet connectors on the other. Neil charges $20 for them which seems a bit high, but it comes with a comeplete set of install instructions, including photos, and makes the install a snap.)

I installed the 5 1/4" Type R components in my S-pods, and I am quite happy with the results. I've seen the Type R components advertised on etronics.com for $140.

Thanks guys.

I have rear Lucids now, so I am going to use that wiring (and previous harness). Will remove Lucids and put original rear panels back in.

How much harder is it to wire the components vs. the coaxials

Drew, you mention rubber seals, can you elaborate?

Again, Drew, Stkn, Mark, thanks for the wisdom.

Not much harder on the components, but you'll have to run two sets of wires through your hoops. (The crossovers will have to go behind the behind-the-seat panels.) That's the only diff in the wiring.

As for the rubber seals, Mark provides you with a rubber seal around the edges of the hole cutouts on the mounting plate to provide a tighter seal for the speakers to seat. (Another nice quality touch) Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Alpine woofer to seat right as the seal made the hole a bit too small. In my case, a bit of filing would probably have enlarged the hole, but I just removed the rubber seal instaed. (This may have been a one time thing with mine, I haven't heard anyone else with the Alpines have this problem, I just wanted to give you a heads up, just in case) The hole was cut the exact right size, my woofers were just a tad too big for some reason. As far as the tweeters, I removed those seals as they got in the way of the mounting bracket for the alpine tweeter. For the tweeter, a seal really isn't that imporant, but again it's another sign of excellence that Mark includes them anyway.

Don't forget to post pics when you're done.

I've been trying to figure out what speakers to use with my S-Pods, and you've been holding out on me all this time??!!
I just got my S-Pods today, and they look great.
Will these speakers work well with the stock HU (MY04), and would you fix me up with the info for the Rolling Audio speaker harnesses?

I sell them directly with S-Pod orders. Didn't ask if you wanted one because you don't need a wiring harness with an '04. The '04 head unit has 4 wires you can tap into, so you save $20 They do work well with a stock HU, and even better with an aftermarket and/or amp.

No problem Mark, I bought a set on Ebay. Thanks for the very speedy delivery.
