Default S-Pod Wiring Info

I will soon be installing S-Pods into my 05. I've searched & read lots of FAQ's. If I understand what I have read so far: The rear speaker 4-pin connector will be connected to the 4-pin vehicle connector first. These are located above front console side panel. (Head Unit may have to be removed or slide out to access these connectors?) Then the speaker harnesses marked AS (pass side) & DR (driver side) can be routed beneath center console to S-Pods.....Correct????

I just did this last weekend, you do NOT have to take the head unit out. The connector for the rear speaks is taped to the wire bundle that comes out of the head unit. To find it you have to remove the triangular panel that is right at the driver's right knee. There is one phillips head screw at the bottom then you have to pry it off with your finger tips.

The next step depends on how small or flexible you are. I'm 6' and 240 so I had to remove the drivers seat. Two bolts in the front and two bolts in the rear, metric but different sizes, make sure you disconnect the electrical connector on the bottom of the seat before you take it out.

Once I had the seat out I could craw in on my back and get my head up under the dash. I used a long knife to cut/push the tape off the connector to free it from the wire bundle. If you have a connector that would plug in that problably would have been enough but I didn't so I had to cut some of the tape around the wire bundle so I could pull the 4 wire connector out enough to get it below the dash. I cut it off and used my own connectors to hook up the speakers. Some other people have left it and put connectors on each wire.

Here is the wiring on the connector.

Red/Yellow (Passenger Rear Speaker (+))
Brown/White (Passenger Rear Speaker (-))
Blue/Yellow (Driver Rear Speaker (+))
Gray/Red (Driver Rear Speaker (-))

Also, if the S-Pod instructions are a little confusing on running the wiring, the finished picture with the blue s-pods has the wiring run inside the roll hoop covers which I guess was really hard, so now Mark has you run the wires using the wire concealers.

Pulling the trim off the center console to run the wires was really hard on my car. One of the plasic plugs actually broke instead of popping out. Anyway, you have to get your fingertips around the trim and pull REALLY hard to get them out.

Good Luck.

Please send me a message, or call me if anyone is confused by my instructions. Rob was kind enough to point out an error I made.

Thanks for posting this Rob.

FYI - I just got home from my first weekend road trip with the s-pods in and it sounds much much better at 80ish with the top down.

Thanks Rob & Mark. I will be ordering S-Pods this weekend. I may still have a question or two before it's all done. Thanks again. I had an '02 Miata prior to this S2000 and had custom built a rear speaker cabinet that bolted in the place where the windblocker was. I spent many, many weeks on that and wound up with a rear spleaker system that really looked stealth/factory. That is why I'm sold on the S-Pods. This mod will be so much easier than inventing another wheel!!!
