Default s pods

I'm in the market to upgrade my stereo and curious about s pods vs mb quart door speakers. with a high end component speaker in the door(w/ proper amp) Are the s pods really needed? Also, everyone here says the s pods sound great, but doesn't leather make a crappy speaker cover, acoustically speaking??? even with the little holes in it? I don't mind spending the money, just don't want to get it right the first time. thanks!

Well...The value of Spods is a bit debatable.

I believe that with a quality set of door speakers powered by a quality amplifier, you don't need the Spods. Sound coming from behind is going to destroy your soundstage. I've never had a problem hearing my Diamonds at WoT or on the highway with the top down...

+1 go to a local get-together and listen to someone's decent door component system. I've got zero desire to add S pods.

Thanks guys for confirming what I thought about basic system setup. I'm trying to do this upgrade with some existing components I already have from a previous car. I have a 4/3/2 Alpine v12 amp sitting in the garage as well as a Bazooka powered sub tube. So all I really need is a HU and some kick ass door speakers. I'm leaning towards an Alpine HU and MB Quart P or maybe Q Series 6.5 component speakers. Do all Alpines compatible with dci controllers?
