Its clear painted to match the car those pictures just don't show it to well.

You can see the finish on the mirrors better:

I actually have my two JL amps side-by-side in the spare tire area. I was concerned about overheating and rubbing between the top of the amps and the glass window. I removed the plastic tray between the cabin and trunk.

I'm interested in your measurements, if that's ok?
I'm not sure exactly what measurements you're interested in, but I'll give you what I have. If you want to know a different measurement, just let me know.

On the double layer amp rack...the first layer where my Alpine (MRV-T503) amp sits there is 2.75" of space, the amp itself is about 2.25" so that doesn't give it much space. On the the top piece of wood where my JL (500/1) amp sits there is 3.75" of space until it touches the foam deadning material under the tray, the JL amp is about 2" so there is enough space above the JL amp.

In a previous post I connected a couple fans to help keep the amps cool while running, but the fans were a little too noisy so i disconnected them. I don't run my system hard for very long periods of time so I don't think I'll run into any overheating problems without the fans. The only amp with limited space is the bottom Alpine amp which power my components.

If you go with stacking the amps and have the tray removed where the soft-top sits then you may have a problem with rubbing. From my setup, I think If I were to remove the plastic tray then the glass window would be sitting on top of my JL amp which would not be good. You could always build another thin layer of wood that sits above the top amp so that the window can rest on that instead of on the amps, just carpet that piece of wood to prevent any scratching.

skip,
i've got two PG 600Ti's in my spare hole side by side as well. There's plenty of room in there for two amps.

for heat issues i just cut a small hole in the tray over the amps. you don't even know it's there. I run my stereo pretty hard at times, so far no overheating..

My stereo install is finally to the point where I can post some pictures. These are not the best pictures. It still needs a few things but you will get the idea.

I am running...
Alpine CDA-9833
JL Audio XR-650 components
JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 10w6v2 pair
