x2

With the limited airspace in the tool well, a 12" is kinda too much for the air volume. My 10" sounds great.

I have been working on this over the past few days, here are some pics of the finished product, I think it came out pretty nice for my first attempt at anything like this. The pics look ok but the screen is dirty from messing with it so much trying to make it fit and the dash needs a good coat of armor all but here it is.

Ok guys, sorry for the newbie question here, but how have all of your Alpine head units installed regarding clearence of the stock stereo door? I hear from all sorts of people that the door will not close all the way with 90% of aftermarket head units, but it looks as if it should have ample room. Who has either the 9883 or the 9885 installed in their S, and if you have it does the door close all the way?

I have the CDE-9852 and from what I can tell it closes all the way.

The only thing I can see that may cause the door not to close all the way would be poor mounting of the headunit. If the wires are bunched up behind the unit, you may not be able to screw the unit all the way in to where it will clear the door.

I've had mine for quite a while and have no marks on the inside of my door and as far as I can tell, it does not hit the door. I don't think Alpine would vary the depth of the unit from the mountain points out (faceplate depth) for obvious reasons, such as keeping it the same, switching faceplates out, etc.

I say go for it, and if it doesn't work out, just install the stock one and get a different one. I haven't had any issues with mine.

Finally decided to install my sub yesterday. It's been sitting in my room for around 4 months. I took it out of my previous car when I sold it to get the S and never got around to putting it in. I was very happy to find the box fit in the trunk w/o mods and matched the fabric color.

And also the mounting bracket i whipped up to hold the fuse. I used a couple pre-existing screws so i didn't have to drill anywhere. and I can still access my fuse box too.
