Sat Radio... what do I need?
I've tried searching, but we all know how that goes here sometimes.
I have an Alpine CDA-9853 head unit in my S2000 currently. (It says it's satellite radio ready, and that I can choose between sirius or XM).
I would like to have XM Sat. Radio in my car, and I'm wondering what I need to get it up and running.
Thanks for any help!

You'll need a compatible Sat. radio tuner, which may or may not come with an antenna. Which you'll also need. Other than that, it sounds like you're ready.
You will need an "XM Direct" universal tuner and a "terk" Alpine adapter. You can get both of these on eBay for like $60 total + shipping. Most sellers sell them as a package. The tuner and the adapter can be zip tied to the wires and stuff under the passenger dash area. Will not even see them.

Thanks John, I found the setup you mentioned... it definitely looks like I'd have to secure them up in the passenger footwell.
I wonder if there is anything different about the hardware between the US and Canadian versions... that terk tuner box isn't available in Canada until the 14th of January, which leads me to believe it might be configured differently for XM Canada

I have also tried both, and I think each has their strong points. I think Sirius is better for Talk Shows (Howard Stern, etc.) but XM has a better selection of music. (More diverse). To each his own.
As far as the Canadian version being any different, as long as the head unit is Ai-Net on the input, it should work. I would contact Terk, though and find out if its a hardware issue (plugs not the same) or if its s software issue (for some reason XM cannot be recieved via this tuner in canada). The manufacturer is always the final word.

I have had the Terk adaptor and XM reciever hooked up to a 9855 for a week now. Is anyone else disappointed with the lag time when changing XM stations? It seems to take a few seconds for the artist name and song info to come on the screen and it goes away every time the volume is changed. Is there any way to speed this up?
The Roady2 I had allowed you to scroll through stations and see what was playing before selecting that station.
Is there any way to modify the Alpine so you can use the rotary knob for XM or Ipod selection?

Not much lag on my 9851. Maybe a second. It really depends on how clear the signal is. If you are on a canopy road, it may take a few seconds. I dont know about the display issue, though, as I dont have your model.
