Sat Radio... what do I need?
lots of topics on this. some people on the trunk, some people on the dash up against the windshield, and even a few have put it in their secret compartment. It should be noted, though, that if you put it in your secret compartment you will be picking up the signal from the terrestrial repeaters only, direct satellite feed will be cut off. should not be an issue if you're in a decent sized metro area, but in a more suburban/rural area, you'll need line of sight.

I tried both, Sirius is better. SIR-ALP1 tuner.
Plus I'm certain that either service is better than me living in a town of 80,000 people with only rock and country radio stations.
I have the XM antenna in my secret compartment, I'm certain that it picks up the satellite signals as well as the terestial ones. Before I retired I was a satellite systems customer service engineer.

Yes, Mines in the secret compartment. Before I mounted it, I tried the antenna in everywhich direction and way all over the interior of the car and reception was fine. My Sirius has some lag to and the sat radio seems to have a bit more bass than say my CD's.
The secret compartment is in line of sight for the satellite. The top of the compartment and the convertable top are transparent to RF from the satellite and the terestrial repeaters. Metal OTOH is not transparent!

I'm sure it'll be a problem with the hardtop, though. I'll probably have to play with it a bit to get it to work
