Default Seriouse help needed for a radar detector.

i live in NJ and basically speed all over, it's like cops on the highways here don't exist. while driving for work in New York state yesterday i got a ticket (wasn't even driving my "S"). I haven't had a ticket in years, so speeding was never anything i thought about, now i'm concerned, if another ticket follows i'm in the granny lane...

I think i know what the best detector is but i value your opinions or any articles. don't want to put my faith in crap or bad technology!

Not to hijack this thread, but related question.....sitting in an S2000 last night (that I decided not to buy, too many miles) I noticed no cigarette lighter on the dash. Just the outlet between the seats?

If so, where are you pluggin in the radars. Not that any of you speed , it's just for safety.

I use an Escort 8500 and am very happy with it. Their new version even added some other band. People with V1's swear by 'em, but just too big and bulky looking 4 me. There is a new BEL that is supposed to be the hot sh@*&Ut, but haven't researched lately.

I use the Pessport 8500 and it has not let me down yet. I have it hardwired into a fusebox. The V1 is a great detector but Ididn't want to pay that much more for arrows. And it is bulky. BTW, escort now has a laser diffuser system that works with the passport radar detectors if you are concerned with laser.

I've had a V-1 since '98 and it has paid for itself many times over. The only ticket I've gotten since I bought it was this April when a trooper was pacing the group of cars I was in and pulled me out of the middle of the group.

In the past I've had a Passport and an Escort and I really prefer the V-1.

As far as wiring goes, I just hardwired it into the fuse block. Somewhere on the boards someone posted a picture showing what leads to hook into.

I have an 8500 and I have the Valentine. I like the V-1 better because of the arrows and because it's a lot lighter than the Escort. The power adaptor in the S is very inconvenient. I hardwired the V-1 and have the concealed display unit mounted right under the hvac controls using a velcro strip. It's a nice setup. Someone posted a tutorial with pics here. It was a straight forward installation and I'm very happy with it. You have to pop the trim pieces on the A-pillar and part of the windshield header. The concealed display comes with a phone jack splitter that you stick on near the fuse box to run both wires. Maybe you can find it with the search engine. I haven't tried the new one yet. Good luck!

Passport 8500 X50 or V1.

I have the X50 and love it! I had the regular 8500, and I can tell the difference. Less false alerts, more range.

It's a deal for $250 (see Electronics forum for link and discount).
