SheDrivesIt's System is Underway
Thanks for the feedback Nicotunes. I was pondering the wlaurent box. I figure that solution would probably run about $600 to $700 for box, amp, and driver, wouldn't it?
Also, any Diamond Audio Hex and/or Zapco amp users out there? I'd like to get some feedback.

Aura Bass Shakers can be a nice way to create the sensation of bass if you don't have or want a subwoofer. They don't cost much, they don't require much amplifier power and they don't take up very much space.
I still want to add a subwoofer but I'll probably keep my Shakers even after I add the sub.

I LOVE Zapco. I'm running a Studio 300x in my S2000. My Monte has a Studio 500, two Comp Z200c2's, and a few other Zapco goodies.
I would replace the front speakers and amp them first. If you're running >100 watts to them in a highly dampened door, you may not even want a sub.
Diamond Audio makes well known components. I had looked into them pretty seriously, but ended up with Oz Audio because I got a HUGE deal on them. I think my entire stereo (HU, subs, amp, dci, wiring, etc) averaged 45% off retail!
Good luck!

OK, on to the meat of the matter.
It is time for some awsome speakers and a solid amp. I have a supposedly trustworthy local vendor. Seems to be a pretty straight shooter. The higher end speakers in his business are Diamond Audio. I haven't started listening yet but on reputation, they should be nice stuff. Looking for recommendations, this dealer talked about a pair of Diamond Hex S600s (Silk dome tweeters) and a Zapco 350.2 amp.
I want something that will maintain it's sound characteristic as it gets louder, so Diamond's cone and basket build quality (looks stiff as hell)looks good.
The Diamond Hex pair of components and the Zapco 350.2 would run about $1150 installed including any spacers (probably not necessary for the S600s - they are not too deep although may want to tilt the drivers a bit), dynamat / hushmat throughout both doors (both the door skin and inner panel matted, rca cables, speaker cables, 4 guage power wiring and fusing, all labor, etc.
Can any of you guru's comment on this? Overpriced for what it is? Reasonable?
I would tend to shy away from a sub in the trunk based upon the fact that I really don't want to lose the space. I am looking for well rounded sound at speed with top down. Smooth mid range and a well integrated low end but not necessarily "thumpin" bass.
Discussing this with my potential dealer, he indicated that I could probably get all the bass I am looking for by moving to a more expensive and deeper reaching line in the Diamond Audio group. I can move to a D9 series set of components (D971) for about $400.00 more.

by my standards, diamond are eh. dont get me wrong, the D9 are pretty nice altough the tweeter gets fatiguing after a while. for the money, i dont feel they are worth it. for the money, there are other speakers that can do better.
zapco.... great customer service, but most of their products are made in taiwan. the rest are partially made in taiwan and completed here in the states. with all the zapco systems i have heard, they all sound flat and lifeless to me when compared with other amps. if you like flat sounding, zapco is great. i like a somewhat colored midrange. i like natural sounding so i feel like i am there with the artists. no doubt a great amp.
$1150 is kinda expensive. i would urge you to listen to them in a car before you actually purchase them. anything on a demo board can sound decent. sounding good in a car is another story. spending $1150 for a component set and amp i would suggest asking him for a satisfaction gaurantee.
one more thing, the hex component set lack midbass and are power hungry.
if you are a home audio enthusiast (as i'd assume considering you dropped the coin on B&W gear) you will not be happy without a sub in your S200, regardless of anything else. i'm a big home audio buff (monitor audio reference throughout) and i've tried getting by without a sub in my vehicle and it just doesnt work. you will always feel its missing something, especially as you transition from home to car
