Default Sirius Sportster 4

YES, I have done a search. YES, I have spent the last hour reading through the posts found. Because of those threads, I have found a couple of good places to mount my antenna, thanks guys. What I still have a question on is a good place to mount the Sportster control unit. Since I am going to be moving this unit between three vehicles, I have to mount it in a place that is some what accessable, yet out of the way for driving. It looks like this:

I had thought about mounting it on the inside of the glove box between the seats, but that isn't the most accessable location. Possibly inside the fold down cover of the head unit? Your thoughts folks? Does anyone have any pics of where they have mounted their control units?

I don't know if this will help, but if I were going to do it it would be either:

1) on a vent mount like Modifry's over the vent to the right of the steering wheel.

or

2) under the dash on the passenger side. right about where the glove box would be on a regular car. I had a VAFC there once and it was an OK spot. Especialy if you use the sportster's remote control.

Good luck.

I have a Sirius Stratus in my car. I have it run (and I wish i had pics) up the driver's side of the dash/apillar seam.

I took the double-stick tape off the dash kit, and made the 2 holes big enough to fit suction cups in.

I then wired up a +12v socket in the driver's side underdash.
The Antenna wire runs down the seam between the door trim and the edge of the dash, under the stereo, down the console under the carpet, and then into the trunk and out. I have an FM hardwire (HIGHLY RECCOMENDED) on mine, that runs with the antenna wire, but stops behind the headunit. I keep an antenna and an FM hardwire in each car.

When I want to change cars, I just unplug from the under-dash +12v socket *i have 3 +12v sockets incar*, and pull the wire for the 12v from where it's tucked in behind the edge of the dash in the doorseam.

I take the cradle, the unit and the +12v from car to car. The rest remains with each car.

When the Sirius is out, there are 2 small plugs that tuck in to the far edge of the dash and hug the pillar/dash seam. When it's in, there's a small Sirius unit stuck to my windshield with no wires showing because they all go behind the unit and directly down the pillar seam. LMK if you need/want pics, i'll try and get some later. Yours looks like it'd hook up the exact same way as mine did.

^That's what I was looking for, thanks. I don't think the piller will work for me though since I need my guage pod there. I also use the FM modulator and am going to do so in each vehicle. I didn't think about the entire bracket moving from car to car, I figured it would just be the Sportster itself and a different dock would be in each car. I see I am going to have to give this some more thought if the entire dock is moving.

I thought about Modifry's bracket and am going to check into that some more. I also thought about using the vent holder and use the vents above the stereo since I never use those vents for air.

Thanks for your thoughts folks, that is what I wanted.

The net in your passenger footwell.

Does that unit have a remote control?

I tried the FM modulator and was less than impressed.

I bought a PIE HON-AUX for my DD and one for my S2000.

I have my power supplies "hard-wired" to each vehicle to eliminate wires and clutter. My antenna wire runs fron the passenger net under the center console to the trunk and then the antenna is place dead center on the trunk but on the rear bulkhead, not the trunk.

On this subject... BIG news in the satelite radio industry. XM and Sirius have MERGED!!!! wooot!!! According to the email I just got from XM, they are going to complete the merger and integrate services so that a subscriber will be able to access ALL programming from both services in the future. This is great news for sat users although I am sure the price may go up slightly because of it. small price to pay for added programming!

EDIT: Here is a link to the merger FAQ from XM's site regarding questions about the need for new equipment and other stuff. In short, according to the FAQ no new equipment will be needed to access the programming from the other company! Imagine this, Stern on your XM reciever or MLB games on your Sirius radio. Woot!

The reason we bought the Sirius over the XM was because Sirius got NASCAR this season. Go figure. At least I can now get MLB, that's a plus.
