I had a local shop install an alarm for me yesterday and my AC controls are acting funny now. The air control switch will switch between the first two positions but it will no longer work on any of the other settings. (See picture) He said he only used the following wires. (See pic) I'm pretty good with electronics and installs but I never got into the alarm installing.

Of course the installer is denying it was him. Is there a possibility that the switch could have just gone bad? Do we have a diagram of the AC control panel here on S2KI?

It's not completely clear from your post whether the knob no longer turns past the first two positions,
if the knob turns but the air flow doesn't come out of the appropriate vents, or if the fan shuts off
when past the first positions...

 

My bad... I should've been more clear on that. The knob turns but the vents do not switch over. If I start in position 1 (only top vents) and move to position 2 (top and bottom vents) the heater will switch to the feet vents as well. But every position after top and bottom vents doesn't change where the air blows through. Although, when I get all the way to defrost, the AC does kick on... the air vents just never change. I'll post more to clarify if needed but I really need to figure this out. Hella unsafe for 4 am driving with a foggy window.

 

Pretty much every position after position 2 is blowing only top and bottom vents.

 

If you haven't solved this already...
I've been poking around the Electrical Troubleshooting manual.
The heater control panel connects to the Mode Control Motor with a green 7-pin
connector under the left middle dash. Perhaps this got knocked loose and isn't
seated correctly?

 

Thanks for the reply. I'm still looking for a solution. I got under the dash and tried to push every connector in firmly just to be sure something wasn't knocked loose. I'll definitely give that another shot today though. If anyone can think of anything else.... I'm all ears.

 

SOLVED: Just in case anyone else has this issue... I wanted to post the solution. Under our dash there are some mechanical parts that switch the air flow of our vents from the first two positions to defrost. The installer had jammed the alarm brain in there so that the mechanical parts couldn't move therefore disabling the defrost. Wasn't even electrical but it sure seems like it when you start troubleshooting. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
