Sony Direct Wire Install/Programming {long}
I hope in all of this it hasn't gotten lost that this is a really cool thing. And, as someone who has had both a PAC and the new DCU, I can confidently assert that the DCU is much better. Not only is it more responsive, but it also doesn't have the problems with sunlight that the PAC did. And, of course, it gives us more options for our limited buttons.
So let me say, emphatically -- THANK YOU, S2KMAN!

We had 2" of ice here this week and had to sit around looking at my new DCU wondering when I would get a chance to install....well, just got it put in.....results: programmed on my first attempt and works flawlessly (even with the car running). After many attempts and glitches with my first unit, S2Kman fixed me up with an entirely new DCU and it works perfectly.
S2Kman thanks again for your responsiveness to all of my questions and problems. If you consider modding the functionality any further.....please let me be a tester.
For anyone else considering this mod....DO IT.
For all those out there who think the IR solution sucks or doesn't want to change their headunit for fear of loosing the dash controls.....well, I have to tell you, this is about as good as it gets. I picked up a sony 710 off the net and the DCU+harness for a TOTAL of $300...I installed myself. Now if we could only convince S2Kman to keep developing some of those new functionalities.......
thanks again,
KaCee

I too was finally able to get my DCU working. The DCU is a wonderful device and I would recommend everyone get one. I also must commend S2kman on his excellent service and his persistence to quality customer service.

S2Kman,
First off I must be the world's biggest procrastinator, Group Buy 1 here. Just got around to installing it.
I can not get it programmed for the life of me. VolDn and Mute will not work with any combination.
Combinations:
Programmed mute 0, car not started, various codes
mute 1, car not started, various codes
mute 0, car started, various codes
mute 1, car started, various codes
mute 0, car started, sequential codes
I do have the modified adapter installed (wouldn't fit without it). I paid for the S2K prewired adapter. Only 5 wires to connect: hot, switched, ground, ant rem, amp rem
I had a voltage problem with Pinky's setup. PAC had to bump up the resistance to ground, to keep me from frying the unit. Your unit seems to still function. I went ahead and measured the voltages, because I know that is where this is heading. With both the car off and on:
Open 0.762
Mode:0.199
CH:~0.68
VolUp:~0.15
VolDn:-0.08 <--I think this is the problem
14.12V Car off
14.32V Car on
PS : www.anstod.com is down?

Hi Scott.
I have a problem with my DCU now. It just stopped working!
I tried reprogramming it, and it goes through the programming sequence perfectly, including the self test. I let it sit for a minute as per the instructions, restart my car and none of the buttons work on my dash....only the mute works ok. Checked all the wiring and it appears to be ok.
I even comlpletely disconnected the DCU from the harness, and reconnected it.
FYI, I programmed in this order:
Mode (push=source, hold=mode)
Channel (push=preset up, hold=disc up)
Vol Up (push=vol up, hold=scan/search up)
Vol Down (push=vol dn, hold=scan/search dn)
Any ideas what's going on?
Many thanks in advance!
Sime

I have had my DCU (from the second GB) and no problems. I did pretend I was a Apollo astronaut during programming
I only crashed into the moon one time
On the second "mission" I was sucessful.
Now to the question. I have decided that I cannot live with the dual mode on the volume control. I would like it to just make the volume go up and down and nothing else. Can this be done? If so, how.
I think this is just a personal prob I have espec. with a big amp, the volume goes from low to very high so fast I cant get my finger off fast enough.
I have it programmed now for Vol as the hold function, and track up as the touch function.
Thanks!

stbrnd -- I'd program the volume up as the touch function and either voume up as the hold (the way I have it) or a second function as the hold. That way, you just touch it and the volume goes up. Touch it several times to notch it up a notch per touch. And this way you avoid the problem of holding it down too long.
