I've been doing a bit of looking around at different sound dampening materials and came across the Quiet Coat material. Anyone have any experence going this route (or a combination of both)? I saw that this is the same material that chipperman is using in the soundproofing kit he is offering. Any thoughts?
Quiet Coat is made by Quiet Car and is the product I used in my car based on research I did in this forum. It's a water soluble liquid similar to latex paint and not really any more of an odor problem that latex paint. I found it to be relatively benign on that count. Drying time between coats is around 2-3 hours with ambient ventilation and can be considerably accelerated with either a heat gun or a hair dryer (I used the former). I found I could reduce the time between coats to around 20 minutes to 1/2 hour with a heat gun (Wagner HT3000 TurboCool set to "7").

Once the product is dry to the touch you can reassemble the interior. The shot in the link I posted earlier (http://www.lichty.org/MiscImages/S2kSoundproofing.html) was taken about 2 hours after the 3rd coat was applied and somewhere around 4 hours after the first one was put on with a brush. I reassembled the interior right after the last photo was shot and never really even noticed the odors beyond the initial application.

The sound deadening impact of the process does seem to change during the week that follows and after about 4 days, the effect is much more notable than it was right after the car was reassembled.

I was able to put 3 coats on almost everything I could see/reach in my trunk as well as both sides of the interior floorpan/tyranny tunnel area with the 1 gallon I bought. I have no regrets whatever about having used this product and would do it again on another car in a heartbeat given the results I got.
