Default Spacer for speakers?

I'm trying to put in a set of Focal Access 165 A1 components. The mounting depth is about 2.5-2.6", and the cutout diameter is about 5.56".

The question is, how thick of a spacer would I need to clear the door panels and the window?

Would cutting the OEM bracket work in this case? I don't really have the tools to make one out of MDF as other ppl have done... (maybe someone want to help me out for a small fee? )

Also, what's a good way to shield at least the top of the speaker now that there's no protection from the OEM bracket? The inside of my door seems to be getting a fair amount of water..

I used tape on the cutouts on my Z6 speakers to stop water from getting into the speakers. Very sticky tape. Water was evident from washing the car prior to the system install later that morning so the stock baffle wasn't really a water barrier.

ya, im eventually just goign to pick up some speaker baffles and install them on the inside of the doors. I dont drive much in the rain specifically for this reason. Until I pick up the baffles, my car will be int he garage. No reason to ruin good equipment for some groceries that can wait

If you are going to put those foam baffles to protect the speakers from water, be sure to cut out the bottom half of the baffle to let the speakers breath properly. Most speakers made for door applications are not made to be choked off like that with a baffle. The baffle will increase bass response at very low volumes, but make it sound like crap at normal listening volumes. Decent speakers are made to withstand the elements and I personally do not worry about that stuff. My car sits outside 365 days a year as well. Never had a problem.
