Speaker Baffle baskets

I understand from crutchfield that these baskets protect the speakers in the doors, but after the installation of my Boston 6.5 pros, and yes they are amped, i have lost a significant amount of bass.

Ok, i have NOT installed the crutch field baskets, or XTC Speaker baffles as they are called. But in any sense i am not getting that bass response back it seems? THen i guess ill have to do without until i get the sub in
To clairify, i previously had polk components (not amped) which were mounted in the stock baskets which produced a decent amount bass for components. Now after i have installed the Boston Pro 6.5 components(amped), i have seemed to have a significant amount of bass. I have not yet installed the baffles, but you guys say i will loose more with the baffles installed?

Matrix could be right...
if you had a major droppoff of bass from one speaker to the next, that would be my first thought.
second thought would be - what's the efficiency change between them... a much less efficient speaker (>4dB/W/m) would be harder to drive for the HU and would result in a major dropoff in bass.
