The circuit manager told me that my Boston 6.5 pros have a very inefficient crossover and that polk DBs are more efficient and produce more bass?

As for the baffle, what happens if you do not cut the bottom 1/3?

You will loose bass response from your woofers. If you look at the stock speaker baskets, you will see that the top half of the stock baskets are solid, the bottom half are slotted to allow air passing through. Cutting the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of XTC baffle is to accomplice the same stock design. One way to verify it, is cutting 1 baffle only, install both speakers with one cut and the other uncut, then listen to music with balance control, you will hear the difference.

check for phase.

one way... use a D or C cell battery.

with the door off, connec the + and - leads of the speaker wire to the battery. watch which way the speaker jumps. it should jump the same direction for both speakers. if don't leave the leads there for a long time (hours or whatever) this won't harm a thing...
