Does the OEM basket provide anything in terms of sound quality?

Just an FYI, Boston Acoustic SC55s fit into Lucid panels.

pretty sure it's just their as a small semblance of "protection". i have been running my door speakers without spacers/baskets/anything for the past 4.5 years, and they have not been affected by water or anything.

i would imagine, the stock basket helps in imaging and throwing more sound forward into the cabin acting like a sealed box as i have seen in other honda cars.

acting like a sealed box? it's not sealed, so i don't think that's the correct logic to use here...

these type of speakers are designer to be IB, so serperating the fron wave from the rear is all that is needed.

Nope, not even close.

It's for protection from the elements.

Porting the paper stock speakers would be a waste of Honda's time...

porting the speaker? i was referring to the basket in this sense im referring to the mounting location. on some other hondas the speaker is mounted in a abs plastic piece to improve sound and imaging.

Used for protection from the elements only.
