speaker fitment?
I just went to Best Buy and took a look at the car audio section, and I saw some Pioneer TS A1680r 6.5'' door speakers($100). They were awesome, anyway, did anyone install these yet? Were they drop-in replacements, or was some cutting involved? TIA.
If they are a 6 1/2" speaker then you will have to get (or make yourself) adapters. The stock speakers hole is more like 6". Some have cut the stock baskests, and other have purchased Lucids' 6 1/2 speaker adapters.
I have the adapters in mine and there was no cutting at all. I have installed a set of Boston Acustics in a friends' S. We used the stock baskets on his. There was cutting, but only the stick baskets to make them fit. No metal cutting and the car can be returned to stock if needed.

Stock speakers are 6.5", but it's the depth of the magnet you need to worry about. See my webpage for a diagram with dimensions on what you can get away with...although you will more than likely need to cut part of the plastic basket away.
There are (were) some 6.5" that fit the OEM basket without cutting or adapters. I put in Alpines (1629S) but they are no longer available and don't know if the new Alpines fit. If I remember right, there were others too, Sony comes to mind.
PokS2k what about those speakers that have the neodyne magnets?? those magnets are so small and are supposed to handel power well and sound real good. Does anyone know which other speakers are a bolt in application with no cutting at all??
