Default Speaker fitment question

I just picked up a 08 S2000 yesterday and have to do something with the stereo, the only question I have left is what speakers are an easy install into the front doors? I am leaning towards JL VR series, some say the 6.5" components are a direct replacement, others tell me it will take some modification, what's the story, and if they don't fit without modifying something, what components in a similar price range with a silk dome tweeter will.

Most anything in the 6.5 range will fit with spacers...you might even be able to fit some oversized 6.5's in there (with spacers of course) as well. sometimes these are labeled 6.75" or just plain oversized. Polks first momo set for example. The woofers were oversized (6.75") and had some pretty decent midbass.

I did more research about the spacers, and while it seems easy enough to make them I have no wood working tools. Is there a place I can buy specific spacers for this car? I heard some brands of speakers come with proper spacers for this application can anyone confirm which they are, I sure would appreciate it. The stock stereo in this thing is terrible.

The Polk Momo MMC6500 come with exact adapter for the S2K doors. Makes it real easy. You will have to grind the tweeters a bit though. The are just a little large to fit in between the tweeter mounting posts on the door panels. Not to hard if you have a Dremel or grinder available.

Thanks! I will probably just go with those speakers unless some other options pops up in the next day or two. I wasn't 100% sold on JL, its just that the rest of the system(minus the head unit) was JL and I wanted to maintain the theme, but ease of installation is crucial for me, and I'm sure they(the polks) are a great speaker.

Sorry for thread hijacking, but I think probably it will also help initial poster.

Question:
I'm going to make spacers myself. I found a good thread with description of it. But, my question, what is the best material for spacers?

In that DIY thread it was 3/4 MDF, but I also know that people use 3/4 plywood. Isn't that right plywood is better for reducing vibration and it is a bit lighter than MDF?
