I installed a set of spods with separate Alpine 136A speakers, and am a bit disappointed with the sound from the spods. The speakers are powered by the stock 2003 HU, using the rear speaker connections. If I compare the sound from just the fronts with the spods using the fader, the fronts sound much fuller, with significantly more bass and much clearer. I noticed when I installed the speakers in the spods, there are gaps between the speaker frame and the spod speaker mounting aluminum plate. Also, some gaps exist between the aluminum plate and the plastic roll bar cover. Would the sound improve if I put some sort of gasket or foam to seal the speaker frame to the spod aluminum plate? Any recommendations much appreciated.

thanks,
Jack
Jack,

I think you have two issues. Power to speakers and a bad head unit. Most good speakers long for power. You need to consider a new head unit as well as at least a four channel amp (preferably 75watts rms per channel at the minimum).

After you make these modifications, you won't be complaining about the S-Pods.

Good luck with your stereo upgrade.

Hey,

I am thinking about getting some Spods, but wondering about sound quality. You really don't want the speakers right behind you to be so loud. You the music to fill the car, and not have a directional attribute to it, which is why the stock speakers are mounted low on the door and down in the cabin. What are you'alls takes on the Spods? Does it make the music sound funny because directionally you can tell its coming from behind you? or does it just add a little fuller sound?
I own a 2000 and am looking to upgrade to obveously hear the radio with the top down at 60 plus MPH. Please let me know your feelings!

And zxzxzx whats the conclusion to your thread here? Find the problem?

I have them. The key is to have the proper amplification and a fader other than the one that come with the H/U. I have a fader control that I can easily adjust without taking my eyes off of the road. I will show some pics.

Also, I used a higher quality 4" component instead of the recommend 5.25 inch component. I was able to get a larger magnet and have more room for the sound to resonate.

I have a JL 500/5 amp with quality components in the front as well as in the S-Pods. It is important to think out the system in advance and not piece meal it.

Good Luck.

I use the JL 450/4 which has 150 watt for the front chanels and 75 for the rear ones. The sound with the sPod's very much to my liking.

The reason I have the JL 500/5 is that I have a JL Stealth box.

S-Pods are definately the way to go. They sound and look great!! I don't personally like the look of the speakers behind the seat.
