How about above the gas tank?

This is a 300/4.

Even a great amp like a JL needs some ventilation, and to be mounted right side up. These amps are designed so the heat rises up off the heatsinks on the top. You may want to at least flip your amp over. I have seen some pretty nice lookin installs more centered in the trunk.

I have seen someone put it over the gas tank, right side up. Its tight, but if you pull the insulation out, there is an inch of so above the amp for breathing.

Put it on the wall behind the passenger seat - cooling fins up.

You will loose a couple clicks of seat adjustment, but it will work fine even with the seat pressed up against it.

I have been running a JL 500/1 like this for 3 years and no issues.

Hmm - thanks for the comments . The install was done by a local audio shop and I hadn't really even thought about the right side up aspect.

It depends on the design of the amp, and whether it is designed to dissipate heat while inverted. You can call JL and ask them. If this amp was not designed to be installed upside-down, that could void the warranty for "improper installation."

I would just follow up on it.

The cooling fins are on one side - not sure if it really matters on the JL slash amps if they are upside down as long as the fins are clear.

Would probably have some heat soak on the PCB though.

Which atleast won't matter if a JL shop installed it that way. You're covered through them.
