Default Stereo Door Speakers Upgrade - need help

I have read all the threads, but I haven't seen an answer to my question.

Originally I was just going to add new rear speakers from Lucid, however, I started thinking that I should just go ahead and replace the door speakers.

This is where my question comes in... when I replace the door speakers do I replace the factory tweeters? I checked Lucid's site and they are only swapping out the door 6.5's and I guess leaving the tweeters in but then why would I want component speakers if I already have the tweeters?

Any help anyone could give would be appreciated.

Also I want to leave my factory headunit in place (at least for the time being) but should I amp my replacement door speakers and my new rear speakers or can I get away with just the 30watts per channel?

I put Polk ex365 in the doors and Polk ex340 in the rears (from Lucid). Kept stock HU, kept stock tweeters. It is much improved sound, especially top down on the freeway and I didn't have to spend too much.

You'll find lots of opinions on what to do if you do a search, but the general consensus, if there is one, seems to be that just adding the rears is good enough.

I replaced my tweeters, and there was a huge difference. I get so much more sound coming out of that area now. Putting my hand over my stock tweeter didn't change the sound THAT much. If I put my hand over my current tweeter (Focal 165K2), it's like muting a trumpet. That tells me that there's more music coming out of there than there was w/ the stock tweeters.

As far as amping your new speakers, that probably depends on their power requirements. Certain speakers require more power than a HU can supply, in order to make them sound their best. And keep in mind that the stock HU isn't 30 watts RMS.

145's choice of Focal's is very good! I've got both the W's and K's in my motorhome, and I think given the limitations of a convertible the kevlars sound better and are a lot cheaper. There is no better speaker. If the sound is puny, you've got to change the head unit to a better/ more powerful one or amp it externally, or both. Good luck! If you haven't heard Focal, make the effort.

The OEM tweeters work more like a supertweeter. I believe they only handle frequencies above 8khz. OEM door speaker also has higher frequency response than most 6 1/2 speakers

When you replace the OEM tweeters, you will find that a lot of sound comes out because of the wider frequency range on aftermarket tweeters.
