Stereo installation
i just did mines with no experience at all. This forum helped alot. when i ran into problems and just asked and received an answer within a hour. i just worked on something else until i received the answer. But it took me a really long time. It took me from friday night until sunday night non-stop working with only 3 hours of sleep in between. But i was really careful and probably over zip-tied everything to make it clean.
NFR...if he was to get infinity kappa perfect speakers...
would he not want a 300/2 amp, instead of a 125/2 amp? Seeing the spekaers have a 400 watt max and a 150rms...seems like 125/2 is underpowering these. I am really interested in this answer since I am most likely going to get perfects and a jl 300/2.

JL for instance, labels their amps as such...lets take the 300.2
For JL that means TOTAL power of two channels combined is 300 watts, so that means its 150 per channel. Companies like Alphasonik, which state 125x2 means that EACH channel is getting the 125, so 250 total.
100 REAL watts in an s2000 per speaker is deafening. IT is REALLY REALLY loud. Dont get hung up on numbers. I like getting a bigger than needed amp for heat issues. With the gains set at 1/2, the amp isnt running at maximum capacity all the time, thus, wont overheat or get tired. My amps are 220x2 @ 4ohms, and I run them at about 100ish for the speakers, and about 200ish for the sub. They have yet to shut down on me in the 4 years Ive had them.
With reliable gear, you can have years of great, loud quality sound for years to come. My sub (alpha 800) has been performing like a champ, and I have no issues with it. Same can be said for my Perfects. Nothing in my car has failed me yet *knocks on wood* which is a BIG reason for me recommending the same stuff over and over. Its not that "you should buy it because I have it and its the best thing ever" but its "I bought it because they are the best....or really good at least."
Ive been doing this for a long time, and have been around the block with most equipment out there. Ive dealt with most companies' customer service departments. I have friends that have car audio shops, so I know the REAL truth. There are hundreds of companies out there bsing their way into the marketplace, with only a handful of them who make a quality product and stand behind them.
Many people always scold me for bashing JL, saying how I think they are garbage and all that nonsense. But, like I stated before, I dont hate JL gear. Their products, for the most part, are pretty stout. The company however, is IMHO a huge POS. They are all a bunch of a$$holes and never want to help you out. There are certain companies (Infinity, Alphasonink, Audiobahn, Soundstream, Hifonics, Eclipse, etc) that stand behind their products, that when/if something does go wrong, they will not say "sorry, you didnt buy from a dealer." They will determine if it is their fault, and if it is, they will fix it.
Then you have people like John, Darkknight. I have done a lot of installs on s2ks. Probably over 30 now. I always get people telling me "why so much, my shop told me $75 to install the entire system, blah blah blah." I then tell them that they just dont know what they are talking about, and have never done any work on this car, thus thinking its just another honda and its cake walk. I rather get a product from someone who KNOWS the car inside out, and builds something ALL THE TIME for that particular applicating. You know that if a person does nothing BUT make car specific parts, they will be good, rather than some shop chopping up some wood. Dont get me wrong, there are good shops, and SOME shops know what they are doing. However, those shops are expensive, and are not necessary since you have access to this forum, and so many people that KNOW their stuff and are willing to help. This car IS easy to work on, ONCE you know all the in's and out's. Broken panels, cut wires, etc can set you back a great deal, so its better that you listen to people who know this car specifically, rather than just a random shop that has never seen an s2000 before.
Do your research, dont jump at anything, and youll have a great system that you will be happy with. There are plenty of threads here that have the dreaded "I told you so" in it. Good Luck.
Dont worry, im not jumping into anything. I have had many a pm sent back and forth to darknight, and read nearly all the FAQ and DIY topics related to installs in addition to many electronic forum topics. Ive been researching for atleast 2 months, and got another month-to-2 ahead of me before I begin insalling. I know 4 months of research may seem drastic...but I only plan on doing this once...and like you...want it to last.
So, I guess, I would want to ask if in your opinion, a JL 300/2 is plenty for the kappas or if you had any other recommendations. I was hoping to put this amp in the gas tank area, so...any other recommendations would need to have similar WXDXH.
I finally got the nerve to do soundeadening...posted up some pics in the "B-Quiet Ultimate Install" thread...and next will be the stereo stuff. I know i want the kappa perfects...and most likely the 300/2 jl amp, i have a 10" w6v2 in a custom box that will be powered by a alpine mrp-m650, but im undecided on a headunit. Dont know if i want a JVC 3.5" DVD screen, or one with nav, or just an alpine deck. Id really like the JVC DVD/nav HU, but its a pricey penny to put on an HU. Do you think i should get a Cap? how much do yuo think im looking at for wires? Before I write a novel...im going to bed. Thanks man

lol over here im looking mostly for light weight big sound sorta thing. im not gunna go all out crazy and want just booming bass or anything, its not what im in to. i just want an all around good sounding system that is very light weight because I will be tracking somewhat. so important things to me will be placement of amps and materials of sub box...
