Steroe Quality
Hey everyone, well my s2k should be here in roughly 2.5 weeks, and i was wondering what the quality of the Stereo is? Also, how many, what size speakers does the car have, and where are they located? Is replacing the deck and speakers as easy as it would eb on any other car. Lastly, Is the honda cd deck have a harness into the back of it, or is it like ghetto hardwired (cause the harness just clicks right out and into a new one) Mike
We have 2x6.5" speakers in the door panel -- stock. I *think* these speakers can handle 15W RMS...
Swapping your deck and replacing these speakers will make a HUGE difference to the overall sound quality -- both sound and clarity. I would check out some of Lucid's packages at www.lucidautomotive.com
I personally just picked up the Kenwood 1377 2-way rear panel upgrade and 2x2-way 6.5" Kenwood 1677 to replace the stock speakers from Lucid. I have an Alpine CDA 7875 deck to drive these four speakers and am in the market for an amp and sub to complete the system!

2002's have four speakers. A mid range down beside your lower leg and a tweeter higher up on the door on either side. Previous models didn't have the tweeters and I think the speaker cones were of a lesser quality.
The head unit has the standard Honda plug on the back of it but no pins or wires for rear speakers.
The only real complication with installing an aftermarket HU is if you wish to maintain the dash controls. There is a universal solution for any headunit (some exceptions) with IR remote called the PAC SWI-X. There are also Alpine OEM adaptors available in Europe and a custom programmable solution for some Sony's made by a S2Kman (although I don't think he plans to produce any more).
Also, Lucid (see sponsors list) can hook you up with all sorts of head units with harness adapters, dash control modules, replacement front speakers and even rear speakers.

Maybe Mike just has his priorities right. I'd rather buy an S2000 and upgrade the stereo if it's crap (which it is) than buy something else with a nice stock stereo and have to upgrade the rest of the car.

First of all: I pray you did not pay $35k, got mine (02' SPa yellow) for 32 flat (32,000).
Second: I have been a dedicated honda guy for 4 solid years, (since 15) and i have driven, discussed, and seen most of honda's vehicles. It is my choice to upgrade the stereo, but if you must know why then here: in every single stock honda i have ever been in (not acura's but honda's) the stereo quality has been par. Cheap speaker material coupled with a semi low wattage deck is not what i want. Id perfer a high end head unit and some infinty 62.3's, because frankly the sound quality is 10 times better. The s2000 is a race-inspired car, and frankly I could just listen to the sweet sound of twin-cam VTEC engaging, but if I am going to flip the tunes on I want quality that matches that of the rest of the car.
Third: If you don;t have something nice to say, don't say anything.
Thanks for your time, Mike
