this should be good... i love when people start pissing matches with Mac. someone always ends up warm and wet... and it ain't Dan.

It's obvious from your original statement using the terms ESR and ESL that you don't really have even half a clue what they mean. Oh, sure, you know what words the acronyms stand for, but you don't comprehend the idea behind them. <shocker!>

regarding the original point of this thread tho? my thoughts:
definitely get a upgraded battery (ie Yellow Top)
consider an alternator upgrade
think about a cap at the end of the day, if you're still having issues.

We actually question specs around here, not spout them off like the second coming.
Thats your problem...too much talking and not enough doing. Around my way we actually put equipment to the test by... ...installing it. Ever heard of it? Its where you stop typing pointless posts and actually put things to real world tests.

I dont have to ease my way out of a conversation like you appear to be doing..."Well on paper, the flux capacitation of the microdiscumbobulator in the capacitor will provide 6 gigawatts of power to a system with 1000w/rms..."

Get real...

Heres some wisdom: spend $100 more on an alternator, and dont waste your time on a band-aid fix.

Would a cap be helpful for this setup, or is it just a waste?
a Waste.

What type of music do you listen to and how loud do you like to listen to it? That would be a good determining factor of what would benefit you the most, in the terms of adding an alternator/battery or nothing at all.

we ain't gets no skool learnin', we gets out there and does it. Git-R-Done.

i'm just guessing here, but... Circuit City?

if you can't explain the concepts you're claiming to use in selecting a capacitor... it really doesn't look good when you taunt someone who does know how to explain those concepts, and then dodge their call by saying you're too busy 'doing it' to explain...

people who really know their stuff can both explain and do it. and they know their own limits for both the doing and the explaining... (which obviously you don't...)

HAHA!! I like nibbling on the kernels...
The kernels that have just started to pop (partially ruptured, with a bit of poppped corn hanging out of the edge)... THOSE are the good ones. Once in a while I'll pick up an unpopped kernel and try to bite down... not so fun.
Still waiting for the o'holy shifty to grace us with his genius and wisdom...
You're going to be waiting for a long time. I gave him half of the homework assignment and said I would do the other half... I bet you a stiffening cap and a new alternator he doesn't come back with anything useful.

If he does choose to come back with something, I'd make the same bet that he's frantically searching the net for a proper explanation. I'm sure he can sell a mean system, but selling does NOT equate to understanding. As that APA paper I found a few months back stated, the more incompetent a person is, the higher their inability to recognize that incompetence.

Dan I honestly love watching you do this to people... and your right I know what I know and how to pass that on. However as you stated I also know I don't know it all and I have no problem asking someone that does know, for help. So I thank you for pointing it out to him.(not that he cares)

And for the record shifty, Dan and I have disagreed on plenty of things sometimes he's right (more often ) and once and a while I'm right (not as often as I'd like) but I'm ok with learning from someone that actually know what he's talking about.

Dan has many times corrected many people here about certain things, I'm one of them. However those that can take it, learn from it, and apply it, are still here those that can't suddenly disappear and don't come back.

Your barking up the wrong tree... but thanks for the entertainment just the same

Actually....the last time Dan tried to help me with some electrical work for my car, I knocked the power out to the entire northeast.

Yes, people disagree, but arguing with an electrical engineer about something like that is just dumb.

Dan, we all appreciate you here, dont sweat the little stuff.

Also, this is a kickas$ thread....junkie of the year award material.

OK, let's not exagerate things here.. it was only 3 substations. But you have to admit, for those 15 seconds, it was the best damn bass you've ever felt. Next time, remind me to keep a defibrolator nearby.
