Stock Radio Differences
Yes, I know the stock head unit is garbage, but I need some assistance for a car that I'm returning completely to stock.
I have an 07 that has the factory XM unit and usa-spec iPod adapter. The car came with an aftermarket head unit (properly used harness adapter, thankfully). In returning it to stock I obtained an XM ready AP2 head unit and installed it. However the roll hoop speakers aren't working when I change the fade 100% to rear.
I might have already answered my question, but were there differences between an AP2v1 and an AP2v2/3 head unit to accommodate the integrated roll hoop speakers in 06+?
If so I'll be heading over to the marketplace to find an 06+ HU...

All s2000 headunits, even AP1, have rear channels that should be perfectly capable of driving
the roll hoop speakers - what the early cars lacked was rear wiring.
If you have a multimeter you can check for connectivity between the rear spreaker + and - from
the connector - MacGyver's site has a diagram documenting the wire positions. You'll see he
doesn't have wire colors for the rear speakers as his AP1 lacked those wires.
While it's possible your OEM headunit is defective, a more likely scenario is that a previous
owner disconnected the hoop speakers, perhaps to use the channels to drive a trunk-mounted sub.

When I deleted the prior owner's wiring, I found he ran a pre-out RCA pair from the HU to the trunk mounted amp, so it doesn't look like he messed with the hoop speaker wiring so far.
The connection harness behind the HU is still intact. I am guessing now I should trace the hoop speaker wiring and ensure connectivity throughout. Do you know how the wires are routed from the HU to the hoops, and any connectors along the way that might have been messed with?
