Default Stock Radio Problem in 2001 S2k

I have a 2001 S2k with stock radio with left speaker channel that has not sounded like it gets full power since the day I drove it off the dealer lot.

I installed Polk speakers, still same problem. The other day, I turned it on and both speakers sounded great, left one sounded as good as the right. Only lasted one day. Next day was back to same low level from the left channel. It has cut in and out one more time, but is out now.

Is this an internal amp problem or what?

I need to take it in to the dealer, but now I'm afraid it will be in an "OK Working Mode" while it is in the service department and be a wasted trip.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Before you take it in, drive around for about 45 minutes with the radio cranked really high. There was an issue with 2000 model radios (TSB 00-054) where high volumes with the CD player would eventually cut out sound altogether (on mine it made one speaker die, then the other about 10 minutes later). This was supposedly fixed for 2001, but since the basic design is the same internally, they may still have problems. The gist of it is, the internal amps would get too hot and their temp protection circuits would kick in...you may be having a similar problem with the protection circuit being flakey.

You sure your leg isn't covering up the speaker?! No seriously!

I heard of this one guy that was like my left speaker gets louder everytime I put on my left blinker. Well it was his leg that was moving away from the door and making it seem like it was louder.

MacGyver,

I suspect it is either a fader switch problem, or internal electrical problem of some kind. The sound has never cut all the off, just down significantly so the right side overwelms the left, and to Pinky, despite left leg position whether next to the door, held away from the door or even on the passenger side. The couple of times the sound came through with what seemed to be full "force", it sounded great even with my left knee resting against the door.

I took it in to have the dealer listen to it. Fortunately, when I signed the car in with the service manager, he clearly heard the difference. When the shop manager got to my car latter in the day, he couldn't reproduce it. He took Pinky's line about my knee being the problem. However, with the service manager as my witness and 20 minutes discussing whether it was a speaker problem (not, did it with both OEM speakers and new Polk speakers), wiring problem (not, since the speakers don't stop working alltogether), or some kind of intermittant internal electrical problem, and the fact that I alone had already spent enough time, brining the car in for them to assess, to pay for an equivalent radio, that they nor I should waste more time trying to time a visit so the shop manager could personally hear it. (Whew, bad, long sentence). He is ordering a new radio.

Problem is, I'll still have to take the car back for them to install it. The question is, get the replacement radio from Honda, or just buy an after market radio and be done with it?

Get the replacement radio, and then promptly replace it with an aftermarket head. I say get the replacement so if you ever want to (God forbid) sell your little girl, you can make her stock again.

Let me guess! He uses his left knee to turn on his left blinker?

Hey, I tried this morning and you are right! When I lower or move my arm to turn on the left blinker, i could hear my tweeters better. I guess the arm is in the way or something. Thanks for the tip.

p.s. REMEMBER TO LOWER YOUR ARMS WHEN LISTENING TO UR FAVORITE MUSIC!
