Default Stock Speakers Crossover Point

I have the stock MY04 speakers powered by an Alpine 9833. It is way too bright. So I am trying to setup the P-EQ accordingly. Anyone have a rough guess of where the speakers are crossed over? I have been playing with it for a while but it's been real frustrating. Not sure why it is so much brighter then the stock system. The strange thing is, I get plenty of Bass response with MX turned on (even level 1), but it sounds like crap!

Anyone else have the same problem? I suppose something could be defective.

i don't think there is a crossover.

the "woofer" is actually full range and the tweeter just has a capacitor that is just a bass blocker really.

Any idea what frequency the bass blocker is set to? Ballpark figure would be fine. Just something to start with I guess.

What is the capacity (value in MFD) of the bass blocker/ We can work from there.

no idea. my S is a 01.

I am getting my info from the way the tweeter was mounted in my integra. i would imagine that the tweeter in the S is the same as the midranges were.

Even if it's a single series-capacitor, that qualifies as a cross-over. In fact, bass-blockers are cross-overs, just set to a very low frequency in comparison to a normal high-pass filter.

To answer your question, most tweeters are crossed-over around 3k. You may be experiencing overly-bright sound because the stock radio probably has poor high-frequency response, which they made up for by installing cheap but efficient tweeters. And they're probably efficient in the mid-high range, which will be hard to compensate for without fancy equalization. You probably need to depress everything from 5k to 10k and boost anything above 15k. But play with it and see what you can do.

The bass has the same problem, where extremely efficient woofers make the most of the wimpy power of the stock HU, but can't produce decent low bass or handle much power. They are reasonably loud with low power, but beyond that there isn't much good to say about them.

This is the typical upward spiral of sound system improvements - you make one component better and it shows up the weakness in other parts of the system.

Thanks everyone. Boosting the very top end really seemed to help. I was able to put a larger drop at 8K and it sounds great up top. That in turn allowed me to turn up the volume to get a little more Bass.
