Stock Stereo and Computer CD's
Mac,
I installed an IMATION CD writer into a person's computer and had a hard time getting it to work also.
However, this lady's computer was a real POS as she is always looking for deals...
When I rebuilt her computer, I told her EXACTLY what components to get. I built her the computer and havent heard from her since.
Just so you know, I wasnt impressed with the IMATION stuff...

I ran into the same problem.
I burned a Memorex CD-RW and it would not play on my MY2000 S2000. It just tried to find a track and ejected the CD. I jumped over to my wife's '99 Acura CL and it played fine. Hmmm!
I then burned a Memorex CD-R and it played fine in both our cars.

Stupid question. Did you close the disc session? Some standard players can't read unclosed CDs, because the Table of Contents has not been written yet. It will spit the CD back out.

"You cannot play CD-RW in most home or car stereo CD players." The optimum word in the last sentence is MOST. This infers that the CD will possibly play in your other systems, but not on this one"
CD-R and CD-RW has lower reflectivity and require an AGC circuit in the CD player to read them. Most legacy players can not read CD-R and especially CD-RW media.
That means the CD we have in 00'S2K is not capable on reading CD-R and CD-RW media.
If you go to best buy, you will notice that the new portable CD players say something like CD-RW ready.

CDR media selection is key. I test hardware and software Ziff-Davis. I recommend using a Yamaha, Plextor or HP/Sony burner. I have successfully written/archived over 500 CD's using my HP9100i at 8x and EZCD 4.02e or Nero. I have less a 5% failure rate. In most a cases it is user error or poorly manufactured media. FWIW, most if not any IDE Writers do not support DMA. So, turn it off. Also, disable you power managment settings, so your system does not power down in the middle of a session. If not, you will have alot off extra ornaments to hang on your X-mas tree this year.) In addition, Windows may automatically check the DMA dialog box. So make sure this setting is unchecked and restart your system, if necessary.
Setup: Reader Secondary Master, Writer Secondary Slave, also make sure you have atleast 650MB free space on the partition that holds you swap/page.sys file. I understand that most people do not use a temp directory prior to writing a disc, but your system will need a large amount of virutal memory to perform this operation.
I agree with the earlier post. I recommend Sony Silver CDR's ($19.95/50cds at Bestbuy), Kodak Silver, and if your low on cash Imation Reds ($19.95/100cds) They all work fine in my 2001 S2K writtne at 8x.
PS: The Reds work great for Playstaion I Games. My nephew scratches CD's like he is workin the turn tables in the 80's!!! So I copy his original and put it away until he cuts his lastest album with the archive.

Dunno about your yankeemobiles but my good old Aussie Stook reads my home made CDs without problem. I think we have a unique changer over here though - it's branded Honda but unfortunately has no other badges so I can't tell you who makes it.
My CD player will pay burned CD's for like 4 songs, then just cuts off. I tried putting in a real music CD and it cut off as well after five or more songs. The CD's are hot as hell when I eject them.
Has anyone experienced this as well?
