Subs and amps
Here's the deal, I have an eclipse 10" aluminum cone sub, that is WAY power hungry. It pounds like nothing else, but it needs lots of food.
My current PPI amp overheats when I turn it up, and even then, the sub is begging for more.
So what do I do? I could get a new amp that puts out at least 500W (any reccommendations?) or get a different sub or two that have better efficiency so I can just use my amp.
My amp is a PPI 2360, rated for 360Wx1 @ 4ohms when bridged. Does this mean the amp can't survive a 2 ohm load? I don't remember reading that it can, or that it can't. There are no specs for 2 ohms.
Any recommendations on a good, efficient sub (or 2) that would match well with this amp?
on a side note, I saw the eclipse 15" ti cone sub and Soundstream tarantula in a store today.
was my only expression. $1000 for the sub, $2500 for the amp. The amp's remote wire is 10 gauge, the speaker outs are 4 gauge, and the battery wire was at least 2 gauge...there was like a 1" diameter hole for the wire. The sub's excursion was 3.5", but the surrounds were so thick and wide, I just couldn't believe that this thing was for real. I wish I had a camera, but the pics wouldn't have done these things justice.

you might consider getting a digital amp like the one made by infinity.

they're very efficient at powering your woofers and less likely to overheat.

Dum Dum,
(I have said this many times before... still a broken record)... I have owned amps from Hifonics, Soundstream, Phoenix Gold, and Alpine... by far, the most dependable "bang for the buck" are my Alpines... In my Stook, I have 2 MRV 1507's and a MRV 757 (I started off with 1 1507 and one 757... but then replaced the 757 with another 1507).
For $499, the 1507 is the best amp for the money. Sure it can max out at 1500 watts but it will play day and night at 600x1 into 1 4ohm channel with very low distortion...
buy one, you'll like it!
