Subwoofer Install
I installed a JL 12w3 in the trunk this weekend, powered by JL 250/1 slash series amp. Here are my first impressions:
1. Alot of bass. Probably too much for stock front speakers. I have to keep input levels at almost minimum.
2. I ran all wires per previous posts on this forum. No noise! Nice clean setup.
3. Used the PAC SNI35. Very pleased. Used Lucids harness. Also pleased.
4. I have very little space remaining in my trunk. But its a wkend car only, so what the heck!
5. Much vibration, due to large amount of bass. At lower levels, bass is clear, when I crank it up, lots-o-stuff vibrates, especially the mat for the conv. top & the plastic pc above the glove box. I'll try to stabalize the vibration areas, but I dont know how much I can do.
All in all I am happy with the setup, considering I was given the speaker & the box & I only had to purchase the amp. My only complaint is that the bass sounds muffled, it lacks that "ported" and "carrying" sound you get with a hatchback.
I think it would help if there were some open cavities that could be made to allow sound to travel from the trunk to the cabin. But that is beyond the scope of my work. I dont have the time to tackle that kind of project. If anyone does this, post your results.
Cheers!
