Is there a DIY headunit install guide for the AP2?

Dave, thanks so much for putting this together, will be very useful when I go to replace my HU. Hopefully they will add this to the FAQ. Just curious though, do you have any information on the wiring diagram for the 06? Just ordered the Modifry DCI remote control plus the wiring harness and now am wondering if the 06 is different with the rear speakers?

The Modifry harness I got had the rear speaker wires in it. The plug itself is the same as previous years it just has the 4 extra wires in it.

To confirm that you have all the wires just take a look at the harness you got from Bob (modifry) and compare it to the stock plug and make sure you have the same number of thick wires (the modifry harness plug has the extra 20/22ag wires for the DCI).

I should have a pic of the assembled harness if you need it.. I can check.

Thanks again, that makes me feel much better. I'm hoping the harness will be here still this weekend so I can get started. Will let you know if I have any additional questions once I see the harness.

SlipperyPete - I am going to install my Pioneer DEH-P680MP this weekend and I have a question for you that I could not find the answer to after numerous searches. Looking at the photos, I see the two plugs that come out of the factory deck. Is one plug for the power, ground, speakers, etc, and is one for the dash controls? The reason I ask is the wiring harness that I purchased has two plugs that are wired together with no exposed ends to connect to the HU's wire harness. I have been told to cut off one of the plugs on the Metra harness because it will not connect to the factory harness and then wire the HU harness to the existing wires on the Metra harness. Is this accurate?

Solomon, I'm going to have to trust jdmcrave on this one. I installed the DEH-P980BT this past weekend but used a Modifry DCI controller to retain the dash controls. (though there are some issues we're still trying to work though with this). I also ordered the harness from Modifry which made the install fairly straight forward and only used the blue plug shown above. Best of luck and I'm sure once you get into it, you'll see it pretty easy.

jdmcrave...nice car

Great instructions, and good suggestions on the door removal. I've installed 3 decks in the past 3 weeks while trying to determine what I wanted exactly. The first time I removed the door took several minutes as I could never be sure how hard to pull. With my AP1, I find it easier to release it at the top first, then the bottom. I can now have it off in about 15 seconds.

Slow, steadily increasing force is what's required. This is true of most plastic, pressure clips. If you jerk at it you're much more likely to break the clip, and the first time is always the hardest.

Thanks for the pics. (It's always better with pics.)

unless something has radically changed, the dash controls are in the
same harness as the speakers, power, ground, etc - the second
connector on the factory radio is for the optional cd changer.

that is correct. The smaller connector isn't plugged in at all in my install.

When I did my HU install this pass weekend I never put that plug in for my alpine dva 9862 and my dash control doesnt work...so I figured it was because of the other plug I never put in...
