Default are these an upgrade to the stock 02 fronts?

The site recommends these for replacing 00-01 fronts, are they an improvement over the 02s as well?

click here for the specs if it helps.

Also, my goal is to have a single 12 running off an amp in the trunk, with upgraded fronts and added rears running off a strong hu. Am I going in the right direction here, or should I be looking to get something different. thanks

Nah, you don't need these. Your stock speakers (since it's an 02) would be better than these. Also, you already have tweeter pods in the car so gettting a set of co-ax speakers do not make sense.

Get the rears, add the sub and take it from there.

The upgrade is going from a simple dual-cone driver in the 00 and 01 to a co-axial speaker. Dual-cone is pretty low-tech, relying on the small flyaway paper cone to flutter and produce higher frequencies. The co-ax has a dedicated tweeter to produce the high frequencies, a big improvement.

However, the 2002 already has a real tweeter, and its even better because its mounted separately high on the door. This is an improvement over a low-mounted tweeter because high frequencies are very directional. If you're going to upgrade the '02 speakers, buy a better component set that includes a 6.5" driver and the tweeter.
